Thais Pushing Ahead with Land-Bridge Project Despite Hitches in Financing
A huge project to build a "land-bridge" across southern Thailand linking the Indian and Pacific oceans is going ahead despite skepticism from economists and fear of financing hitches caused by the Gulf crisis.
Government planners say Thailand will hire a foreign consultant soon for the $15 billion Southern Seaboard Project. A feasibility study will begin next month and a master plan completed next March.
