The push for GMP regulations and greater federal oversight for dietary supplements gained momentum in the past few weeks with a flurry of activity surrounding the herbal ingredient ephedra.
In an Oct. 8 statement, HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson urged the agency to recommend the "strongest possible mandatory warning label possible for ephedra products."
"Based on the best scientific data available, we will take appropriate steps to protect the public health," Thompson added.
