MR. CARNEGIE, FOUNDER OF U.S. STEEL AND ONE of the great industrialists of American history, said those words at the turn of the 19th century. They held true through most of the 20th century--until Bill Gates redefined "industrial investment," that is. Up to the age of computers, for most people, investing in real estate was the best road to riches in the United States.
