Alaska Marine Lines, part of the Lynden group of companies, has another cargo barge under construction at Gunderson Marine in Portland, Ore. A sister barge, the Southeast Provider, was launched in April. The one currently under construction is expected to be launched in April 2003.
According to George Williamson, a Lynden port engineer, this barge and her sistership, "are to add capacity in servicing Southeast Alaska and to service [TeckCominco's] Red Dog Mine."
Unlike her sistership, which was a combination rail-and-deck cargo barge, the new barge will be for deck cargo only. Designed by Fisker-Andersen & Whalen Inc., Seattle, both are 360'x100'x22' ...
