MUSLIMS all over the world, who number about 1.3 billion, will begin their holy fasting month of Ramadan today. During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and marital intercourse from dawn to dusk. The holy month will end on December 6 with Eid-ul-Fitr, the traditional feast that breaks the long fast.
The significance of the month of Ramadan begins with the initial divine revelation to Prophet Muhammad. It was during Ramadan that the Angel Gabriel was recorded to have first appeared to Muhammad and there the Qur'an was revealed.
