President signs bill naming courthouse
President Bush signed legislation Tuesday to name the new federal courthouse planned for Eugene the Wayne Lyman Morse United States Courthouse.
Construction of the $70 million building east of downtown is expected to begin next year and to be completed in 2005.
Morse came to Eugene in 1929 as law professor at the University of Oregon. Within two years he became dean of the University's School of Law, the youngest law school dean in the United States.
He remained in that post until his election to the U.S. Senate in 1944. While still at the UO he ...
