After 21 years working for Oswego County, Personnel Director Maurice Hurd has retired.
Although his last day was officially Friday, Hurd has been out of the office since Aug. 16.
Hurd went to work that day at 8:30 a.m. in spite of numbness in his face and one arm. By 3 p.m., he was at Community General Hospital in Syracuse, undergoing tests.
Even before that day, Hurd said he had considered taking advantage of the early retirement incentive offered this year by the county.
"I had what they call a mini-stroke," Hurd said. "That's what kicked it over."
