FRANKFORT -- Lt. Gov. Steve Henry said Wednesday he will not take public matching funds when he runs for governor next year. He said it was not feasible with the state in a budget crisis.
"In principle, I believe in campaign finance," said Henry, a Democrat. "We have to do something to ensure that citizens get equal messages. ... But I believe we need a budget."
The state has operated without a budget since June 30 because of an impasse between the House and Senate. Democrats who control the House wanted to appropriate $9 million for campaign matching funds. Republicans controlling the Senate refused to go ...
