Contemporary men's sportswear label NYBASED has hired Carl James as its new head designer, with responsibility for knitwear and sweaters. He reports to Chris Serluco, executive vice-president of design and merchandising. James, formerly a senior designer at Kenneth Cole, replaces Heather Stewart, who has left the company. NYBASED, which earlier this year was sold by owner Marisa Christina to Arnav Industries, a Manhattan-based maker of private-label women's sportswear, is now sold in approximately 450 doors.
