The Brazilian iron & steel company CST (Companhia Siderurgica Tubarao) invested US$450mil in a hot rolled plant aiming to move into hot rolled coils market, currently cornered by the steel companies CSN (Companhia Siderurgica Nacional), Usiminas, and Cosipa. The mill, with capacity to produce 2mil m tons per year, will process steel plates into coils, sheets of until 1,2mm, which are not currently produced in Brazil. Out of the 4.8mil m tons total steel plates production, CST plans to process 100,000 m tons into coils. CST production will be gradually increase and may reach 4mil m tons in the future. ...
