Control over the boards that regulate medical professionals must be turned over to the Department of Public Health starting Jan. 1 and state officials are now scrambling to meet the deadline.
A special committee named by the Legislature must produce a report by Dec. 1 outlining a plan to have DPH assume jurisdiction over eight boards, including those that regulate doctors, nurses, dentists and pharmacists.
All of the boards have historically come under the jurisdiction of the Office of Consumer Affairs, but the Legislature voted this year to shift them to DPH jurisdiction, saying many of the boards are taking too long ...
