A virus that helps hackers intercept personal information is infecting computers in Fresno, though experts say it is more of a nuisance than a danger.
The Bugbear virus lurks in e-mail attachments disguised as messages from family, friends and co-workers. Once opened, it wreaks havoc on Windows-based home computers and corporate networks.
Bugbear first tried to taint city, Fresno County and California State University, Fresno, computers in October. It caused no file damage but made some network printers go haywire.
The virus has invaded thousands of computers worldwide since it first was discovered Sept. 30.
