The US administration has made a number of significant shifts in its position on the Iraq issue, with the apparent intention of building as broad a coalition as possible in support of US aims. President Bush on 7 October laid out the arguments for keeping up the pressure on the Iraqi regime to get rid of its weapons of mass destruction.
