Northwest suburban voters Tuesday returned Republican incumbent Wendell E. Jones, 65, of Palatine to the 27th District state Senate seat for another four years.

With all of the 193 precincts in Cook and Lake counties reporting, unofficial returns showed Jones winning with 34,581 votes, or 62.5 percent, compared with 23,184 votes for Democratic challenger Michael Harry Minton, 56, of Palatine.

Unlike the 2000 election when he narrowly squeaked through with about 944 votes more than Democratic challenger Sue Walton, Jones won by a sound margin this time around.
