A newly ordained clergyman has begun an American Old Catholic Church in Cambridge.
Called Risen Christ Holy Spirit Church, it holds worship services at the Cambridge Elementary School, 802 W. Water St., at 10 a.m. Sundays. The Rev. Michael Messina says there are 15 members so far.
He calls the church charismatic and its atmosphere casual. Services contain modern praise and worship music.
This church represents one of 15 to 20 factions of the Old Catholic movement, Messina says. Each faction considers itself Catholic, but its stance on specific church policies can vary widely.
