MERSEYSIDE'S fire chief today appealed to every citizen to be vigilant when firefighters walk out on national strike at 6pm today.
The strike goes ahead after yesterday's talks with firefighters, who are seeking a 40% increase but were offered 14% over two years, ended in deadlock.
