AS OUR homes fill with ever more hi-tech gear, designers are turning to leather to add warmth and softness to the equipment's harsh boxes. "The point is to give texture to a surface that's otherwise impossible to add character to," says Bill Amberg, the designer whose name is synonymous with luxurious leather goods.
"Leather's a material like wood or stone; it's very sympathetic to live with. Far more so than grey plastic will ever be."
