A year ago, in the middle of baseball's threat to eliminate the Twins and Expos, Terry Ryan was offered the opportunity to interview for a similar position with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Facing the prospect of losing his job, the Twins general manager nonetheless turned down the Blue Jays.
A decision that should have landed him in career counseling looked brilliant Sunday, when Ryan was named Sporting News 2002 Executive of the Year, baseball's equivalent of an Oscar for a front-office employee.
Ryan was characteristically humble after the award was announced at the general managers' meetings Sunday ...
