WASHINGTON -- The Food and Drug Administration has approved Cozaar as a treatment for reducing the rate of progression of nephropathy in Type 2 diabetes patients who have the kidney disease and hypertension.
Cozaar was previously indicated for treating hypertension. Merck and Co., which developed the product, claims Cozaar is the only medicine to demonstrate significant reduction to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) among this patient population group.
