Check fraud attempts are on the rise, but banks are doing a better job of preventing the crimes, according to the American Bankers Association.
In its Account Fraud Survey Report released Wednesday, the ABA said that the dollar amount of the attempts hit $4.3 billion last year, more than double the figure from the previous survey, which covered 1999. However, the losses per case fell 23%, to $1,163, and total losses increased only slightly, to $698 million.
