Gourmet and health-food chain Trader Joe's is opening stores in Royal Oak and Farmington Hills this month, and its arrival has put competitors on full alert.
That's because Trader Joe's is bound to capture the public's attention as well.
Monrovia, Calif.-based Trader Joe's Co. is opening a 9,270-square-foot store in Royal Oak at 27880 Woodward Ave., just south of Catalpa Drive. A banner on the store says the store will open Friday. The 8,891-square-foot store in Farmington Hills is at 31221 W. 14 Mile Road.
With 177 stores, Trader Joe's has an edge over many independent gourmet grocers because of its buying power ...
