MEXICO CITY _ The release of the first memoir by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, winner of the 1982 Nobel Prize in literature, has brought mayhem to Mexican bookstores.
Recent public appearances by idols Britney Spears, Antonio Banderas, Selma Hayek and Brad Pitt, caused plenty of turmoil. But that was nothing next to the chaos provoked by this aging, ill writer, where police armed with machine guns, motorcycles, glass shields and batons stood ready to prevent attacks and theft.
