The Cubs were 5-9 in extra-inning games in 2002, and general manager Jim Hendry was hoping for better overtime results during a marathon day Monday.
Hendry, joined by team president Andy MacPhail, met for some 3 1/2 hours in Arizona with Dusty Baker during daylight hours and later resumed the conversation during dinner.
The subject, of course, was the Cubs' managerial vacancy. Baker had been Hendry's man from afar from the end of the regular season until the end of the World Series, which Baker's San Francisco Giants lost in seven games to the Anaheim Angels.
