Q. My dog is approximately 2 years old and suffers from some type of severe allergy. This causes her to scratch herself until she bleeds, and it usually results in an infection.
Off to the vet we go and she gets steroids and antibiotics, plus a special medicated shampoo. We seem to get it under control for a little while, discontinue the steroids but keep her on the anitbiotics. Back it comes in about a month (or sooner). We now are trying a special Prescription Science Diet without protein.
Our vet says to give it about four to six weeks and see if that helps. Meantime, she's back on the steroids, which is the only thing that seems to give her relief. ...
