Oceanfront farmland in Fajardo is being converted into Cayo Largo, a US$500 million resort/residential community being developed by Dan Shelley, president of Puerto del Rey Inc., reports Caribbean Business (Nov. 10, 2002). The resort is slated to have a soft opening by year's end, with a formal grand opening some time next year. Six Continents Hotels, parent company of the Inter-Continental brand, owns a 35% stake in what is now called Cayo Largo Resort.
