CUMBERLAND, R.I. _ Fido is supposed to be your friend. He's a dog. You're a man. According to convention, that makes you best buddies. But, clearly, you're not.
Don't blame the dog. If you want to rub someone's nose in your interpersonal pet problems, try your own. Your dog doesn't need a lesson, you do.
Heel! Good boy. Now, learn to pick your pet.
Yes, a Dalmatian would go well with your home's black-and-white decor. And someone wanting wintertime topiary practice could purchase a poodle.
But be warned. Picking by appearance is a mistake. After all, a dog's an animal, not a barking throw rug.
