Abstract
The title of home economics has been a contentious issue throughout the profession's history. The meaning of the title can be renewed through the theoretical discourses that a profession comes to rely on and through the practice it is recognized by. While home economics is currently being abandoned in some professional and post-secondary sectors, in others it holds new interest and conceptualization. Five different theoretical discourses are briefly reviewed for the potential they hold for renewing the vision and conceptualization of home economics.
