Ten EU candidate countries unite to improve financial terms of entrance
Ten countries headed for a rendezvous with the European Union in 2004 are determined to do so on a better financial footing than they were recently offered by the EU summit in Brussels and have laid the groundwork for common negotiating positions in financial matters in the home-stretch of accession talks.
Meeting in Warsaw Friday, prime ministers of the ten candidates criticized the EU's latest financial package for candidates as "significantly below the Berlin ceilings" and suggested that the terms could threaten their macroeconomic stability upon accession. ...
