Shrimp overtook tuna this year, with diners polishing off a record average of 3.4 pounds of shrimp last year.
Americans turned away from tuna and towards shrimp in 2001, according to the latest report on the nation's seafood consumption preferences released by NMFS in August.
Tuna has topped consumers' seafood eating preferences since the mid-1950s, when records were first kept. But shrimp finally overtook tuna this year, with diners polishing off a record average of 3.4 pounds of shrimp last year, twice as much as the amount of shrimp eaten in 2000.
