For the first time in the history of Christmas, Santa's faithful team of reindeer is prohibited from crossing the Illinois state line, forcing the jolly old elf to rely on horses to deliver him tonight to Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee.
While the border crackdown conjures up thoughts of a ho-ho- homeland security sanction, the reindeer ban is fueled by a health concern. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources evoked the emergency ban in an effort to curb chronic wasting disease, a fatal neurological illness that attacks deer and elk.
