Des Stickland left school at 16 to be a removalist, getting his first job at TNT subsidiary, Wridgways. Today, in 2002, he runs the Australian removals and storage firm, the only listed removals company in the world. He is also its largest shareholder with 12 per cent of the stock. While removal companies have a poor reputation, Stickland believes the 5,000 operators in the industry are no competition for Wridgways.
