PHILADELPHIA _ Gene Upshaw has no regrets about endorsing the NFL's decision last November to add the stimulant ephedrine to its list of banned substances.
But the longtime players association chief definitely regrets giving the green light to the league's decision to punish players who test positive for ephedrine the same way it does steroid violators _ with a four-game suspension.
At least five players, including NFL sack leader Julius Peppers, already have been suspended this season for testing positive for ephedrine.
So what's the problem? The problem is none of them, including Peppers, appear to have known they took it.
