WASHINGTON -- An unprecedented number of courts opened their doors today to finalize adoptions of children from foster care and to celebrate all families who adopt. More than 1,400 children were adopted as a result of National Adoption Day celebrations in 34 jurisdictions nationwide.
Coast-to-coast festivities started in Washington, D.C., with a celebration featuring HHS Assistant Secretary Wade Horn and Mayor Anthony A. Williams and concluded in Los Angeles County with an event featuring HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson and Bruce Willis, who assisted with adoption proceedings.
