Jeffrey Eugenides' first book, the cult smash ``The Virgin Suicides,'' examined a group of misunderstood teenage sisters and the adolescent guys who obsessed over them from afar. His new book, ``Middlesex,'' concerns the coming-of-age of a teen who learns as s/he enters puberty that s/he's actually a hermaphrodite, and the mountain of sexual-identity issues that entails.
