The thought didn't occur to me until I was well on my way back from UW-Whitewater: Where were they? Where was the Madison faculty?
An old acquaintance, an instructor in the English Department, had invited me to Whitewater, asking if I would come speak at an anti-war teach-in pulled together by the campus Greens. I went down not knowing what to expect. Well down on the speakers list, I sat in the filled auditorium and watched and listened as some 10, 12, maybe 15 Whitewater faculty members got up to speak against the upcoming Bush-whacking of Iraq.
