With the Cincinnati Art Museum's current exhibit of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo costume and set designs, Ballet Russe nostalgia is in the air. But other memorabilia from the company, which disbanded forty years ago, may be headed for court. Butler University in Indianapolis houses a vast collection of Ballet Russe sets and costumes that it says it owns. It also lays claim to parts of the estate of George Verdak, former chairman of Butler's dance department, saying that Ballet Russe properties that were rightfully Butler's have been intermingled with Verdak's personal collection. But the heirs of Verdak dispute that claim, saying the works belong to the family's estate.
