The Big Island Visitors Bureau (BIVB) has launched a destination-specialist program that combines a comprehensive visit to the Big Island with a self-study manual and test for agents to complete once they return home. Graduates receive confirmation letters and certificates designating them a Hawaii's Big Island Destination Specialist.
The program is designed to draw upon the heritage, history, natural beauty and range of diversions that are the island's hallmarks, says George Applegate, BIVB executive director. It also springs from the bureau's belief that agents need specialized, inside information to remain competitive. "We ...
