HCFA implemented a new correction policy at press time that lets facilities modify submitted records and inactive records sent in error.
The new correction policy, tested in a pilot project in the state of Washington in late 1999 and early this year, also upgrades some nonfatal errors to fatal errors and eliminates lock dates for assessment and care plans.
Healthcare officials expect the new correction policy will improve data accuracy in Minimum Data Set databases in nursing homes as well as in state and federal government offices.
