Herbs are special plants we use to flavor our food and create pleasant aromas. The food' we eat tastes much better when it is flavored with herbs. Herbs can be added to food before it's cooked (like when you marinate a steak in oil and herbs and garlic before grilling it, for. example) or while it's cooking (as when you add herbs and spices to a pot of chili).
Many foods we think of as coming from different countries, or even different parts of the United States, get their unique flavors from the herbs that grow nearby.
