This book is an energetic attempt at discussing conflict at a time when perceptions of political violence and security have been challenged by the events of September the 11th. The book contains a foreword by Lord Judd and this is indicative of the book as a whole; it is a commentary rather than a book of either academic or learning value. Indeed, many more thorough commentaries have been written since the terrorist attacks in September and it is rather disconcerting to read a book by an observer rather than an authority.
