On Jan. 21, 1998, Steve and Cheryl Crowe awoke to find their 12-year-old daughter, Stephanie, lying in a pool of blood on her bedroom floor.
The Escondido, Calif., seventh-grader had been stabbed to death while her parents, grandmother and siblings slept.
Within days, police had arrested the Crowes' 14-year-old son, Michael, for the murder, claiming the teenager confessed to committing the killing with two friends.
A judge later threw out the confession, concluding it had been coerced. And more than a year later, authorities dismissed the charges against the teens after DNA testing ...
