WASHINGTON--The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is offering technical assistance to physicians who missed the Oct. 15 compliance deadline for federal electronic transactions standards under the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act.
On Oct. 15, Karen Trudel, director of the HIPAA project staff at CMS, told this newspaper that nearly 500,000 covered entities had submitted their model compliance plans to receive extensions to the compliance date. Nationwide there are 2 million entities performing electronic transactions that would be considered covered entities under HIPAA. "There are people out there we think we should have heard from," ...
