Dec. 2--Despite dramatic advances in treating the deadly disease, the number of people in Massachusetts living with HIV or AIDS has reached the highest level in the history of the epidemic, health officials are expected to report today.
Some 13,780 people in the state have AIDS or the virus that causes it, HIV, according to data compiled over the past year by the Department of Public Health. That's about 6 percent higher than last year. The annual snapshot of the disease's prevalence also shows that about 28 percent of those with HIV/AIDS are women, more than twice the ...
