SANTA ANA, Calif. _ The report describes an affluent Orange County and its "dirty little secret" _ tens of thousands of rats living in overgrown shrubs and fields, particularly in south county, feasting on peaches, oranges, avocados and pet food.
The rat population is growing, with 81,000 complaints in the past six years, and could explode into a health problem, the grand jury study warned.
But the grand jury's recommendations to stem the invasion were pushed aside by the county, which said it didn't have enough money.
It's hardly the first time.
