Nov. 25--It's a good time to be hungry for burgers and french fries.
The nation's largest fast-food burger chains are duking it out in a price war, and the only one winning is the consumer.
Hoping to boost declining sales and piggyback on Wendy's success, Burger King and McDonald's pulled out the artillery this fall, offering a value menu featuring dollar hamburgers, plus sodas, french fries and salads. While Burger King marched onto the battlefield first, McDonald's upped the ante by offering sandwiches twice as big for virtually the same price.
