Nov. 24--To his enemies, and he has many, John C. Malone is nothing short of Darth Vader. To his admirers, he is a consummate financial genius who can squeeze blood from a rock.
Mr. Malone, the man who transformed Tele-Communications Inc. from a fledgling rural firm into the nation's largest cable company, is often cast as a larger-than-life figure by his enemies and fans.
But he has largely remained elusive. Mr. Malone grants few interviews and avoids publicly discussing his motives, financial or otherwise.
