Sharp Corporation and Semiconductor Energy Laboratories Company Ltd (SEL) have jointly announced the development of a new system liquid crystal display (LCD) technology based on continuous grain silicon (CG silicon).

The two companies said they have succeeded in forming an 8-bit central processor unit (CPU) onto a glass substrate for LCD displays for the first time in the world. They claim that "integrating LSI on a glass" is a new concept opening the way for expanding the use of LCDs and LSIs, and creating sheet computers and sheet TVs in the future.
