Dec. 5--The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Commission has awarded $365,014 in grants for youth employment in southern New Mexico.
The grant will fund nearly 60 positions for those ages 14-25.
Darlene Valdez, with the YCC, said the young people are hired to work on projects that are designed to conserve New Mexico's natural resources and provide community benefits of lasting value. She said the funding for the projects is through the governmental gross receipts tax.
Six projects recently received funding in Dona Ana, Grant, Luna and Sierra counties.
