Nov. 14--Retail mall giant Simon Property Group Inc. has launched a $4 billion takeover attempt of rival Taubman Centers Inc., raising the possibility of more consolidation in the nation's shopping center industry and major changes in Orlando's retail landscape.
Already rejected by Taubman's board, Indianapolis-based Simon Property said Wednesday it plans to take the unsolicited multibillion-dollar offer directly to Taubman shareholders.
