A report in The New York Times quotes senior intelligence official Amrullah Saleh as saying the intelligence thwarted an assassination attempt intended for Pres. Karzai when Bukan Akram Taufiq Herami, a 22-year-old Iraqi Kurd using an Afghan name of Noor Mohammad, wired with 10 kilos of explosives was captured near Defence Minister Marshal Mohammad Fahim's house in Kabul on Nov. 22. Saleh says: "It is clear that a blast from over 10 kilos of explosive can easily smash the car".
